Who regulates online casinos in the UK
Any operator offering casino games to players in Great Britain must hold a licence from the Gambling Commission (UKGC). A licence from Malta, Gibraltar or Curaçao on its own does not make a site legal for British players. Check the licence number in the site footer against the Commission's public register before you deposit.
The rules that protect you
- Age and identity checks before you play. Since May 2019, operators must verify your age and identity before you can deposit or gamble, including free-to-play demo games.
- No credit cards. Gambling with a credit card has been banned since April 2020. Debit cards, bank transfer and e-wallets are allowed.
- Online slot stake limits. Since April 2025 the maximum stake per spin is £5 for players aged 25 and over, and £2 for players aged 18 to 24 (from May 2025).
- Bonus wagering cap. Since 19 January 2026, wagering requirements on UK promotions are capped at 10x, and offers that mix products (for example casino and sports betting) are banned.
Tax on winnings
Players in the UK do not pay tax on gambling winnings. The operator pays gambling duty on its profits.
How we list UK operators
The casinos below hold a UKGC licence or accept UK players under one. They are scored on the same method as every other review: seven test steps, six weighted categories. Bonus terms shown elsewhere on the site may reflect other markets; a UK account gets the UK terms, including the 10x cap.
